Kieran Micka-Maloy

Kieran Micka-Maloy is our Planner for Climate Initiatives. He works on projects within Pratt Center’s climate portfolio, like EnergyFit and the Queens and Staten Island Regional Clean Energy Hub, and participates in Statewide climate policy coalitions. His strengths include public engagement planning, data and geospatial analysis, and policy research.
He is the lead author of the Regional Assessment and Barriers Analysis (RABA) for the Queens and Staten Island Hub. The RABA is an in-depth examination of the obstacles preventing low- and moderate-income (LMI) residents and disadvantaged communities in these boroughs from benefiting fully from the green energy transition. Through the Hub, Kieran has also worked one-on-one with Queens residents to help them coordinate and complete home energy upgrades, and planned and facilitated educational programming around Queens to increase public knowledge on clean energy technologies and incentive programs. For EnergyFit, Kieran leads our data analysis efforts, helping to determine program impacts and uncover findings that can help future retrofit programs succeed in NYC’s frontline communities.
Kieran completed his Master’s degree in City and Regional Planning at Pratt Institute's Graduate Center for Planning and the Environment. During his studies, he worked as a Graduate Fellow at the Pratt Center contributing to projects like the NYCHA Climate Action Network and the BASE Campaign. He has also worked for organizations like TransitCenter, NYC DOT, Good Old Lower East Side, and Manhattan Community Board 6 in NYC, and for non-profits in India and Indonesia. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Urban and Regional Studies from Cornell University.
A lifelong New Yorker, Kieran grew up between the Lower East Side, Manhattan and Sunnyside, Queens. He has lived in the same rent-stabilized apartment since he was two years old, and does not plan on giving up the lease anytime soon.
