Pratt Center for Community Development

Planning, Building, & Educating for Change.

Training & Education

The Pratt Center has an extensive record of offering training and education programs to residents of low- and moderate-income neighborhoods who are seeking to actively participate in the development of their communities. The Pratt Center periodically conducts special seminars that address specific policy issues that impact the quality of life in urban areas. In addition, the Pratt Center develops curriculum and organizational development programs for nonprofit organizations engaged in community revitalization. Areas of training include strategic planning, staff capacity building, and leadership and board development.

Training

The Pratt Center's current training and education work includes contracts with the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to provide training on housing development and management to Community Housing Development Organizations (CHDOs). The Pratt Center is also under contract with the New York City Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD) to provide training in organizational development and management to help build the capacity of over 900 community-based, DYCD-funded organizations in New York City.

The Pratt Center is also looking to re-establish the Pratt Community Economic Development Internship program. The original internship was one of the most successful programs in our history, providing comprehensive hands- on training to over 300 community development practitioners - including many of the current leaders in the field - over its 13-year history. We are working on a framework for the revised program, the Community Development Leadership Institute, which not only updates its content, but makes it a full partnership with the Pratt Institute.
